February 14 was the 48th anniversary of the foundation of the Confederation of Revolutionary Workers’ Trade Unions (DISK), one of the most significant working class organizations in Turkey. DISK celebrated its anniversary with a workers’ rally against the bans on strike.
Upon a decision taken by the National Assembly of the United June Movement in December 2014, an extensive boycott was organized on February 13 for secular and scientific education. Despite strong intimidation by the government and the mass media, the boycott was 100 percent successful in many schools.
